Post #23. The Art of Useful Perception

Good morning. Hope you’re doing great.

Hope you are living your life in alignment with your deepest values…

Hope you are staying focused on your mission & delivering value to others, in a smile, encouraging word or simply acknowledging their dignity as living beings…

My hope is really for you to rise from your old way of living & thinking and enter a new world of being and living…

A world of possibility, freedom and growth…

A world where you’ve release your excuses and go in the direction of your highest dreams.

So, today I want to talk with you about beliefs…

Why beliefs?

Well… Simply because…

Our beliefs makes us who we are…

Our beliefs effects our choices… (and our choices creates our results)

Our beliefs about what it means to be alive…

Our beliefs about who we are…

The meaning we give to our experience radically shapes the experience itself…

The way we see ourselves and see the world, either liberates us or limits us…

The thing is… there’s so many things that we can believe now days…

Beliefs are at the very core of what separates epic performers from others, who don’t even believe that they can rise to that level, and therefore they’ll never do.

Beliefs are what separates the happy from the miserable…

Or as Tony Robbins says: “Beliefs are what separates a Charlie Manson from a Mother Theresa…”

We simply become what we believe…

“Weather you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”
– Henry Ford

Some core beliefs that either limits or liberates us…
a) Do you believe that your character and capabilities are fixed components that can not be changed? Or do you believe that you can grow and change & develop these qualities?

b) Do you believe that your destiny is mostly written in your genes or mostly shaped in your everyday choices?

c) Do you believe that the unexpected, painful experiences in life are 100% evil and should be abhorred or do you embrace these painful experiences as opportunities to grow and learn? As building blocks to a better version of you?

d) Do you believe that you need to feel motivated in order to take action or do you believe that motivation can be a by-product of action & discipline?

e) Do you believe that your life is determined mostly by your conditions or your decisions?

So, depending on what you believe here, very different choices will be made and completely different results will come forth… You see?

The key here is to choose the beliefs that serve us… The beliefs that help us move forward in life... to where we want to go & what we wish to express in our lives…

You see… some beliefs limits us… No matter how much truth they seem like to you… if you keep holding on to that negative, limiting self image, you’ll be limited & stuck forever…

My guess is that this situation is not something you wished for, or set out to end up in, but I believe… You can break free…

Choose beliefs that work for you, not against you.

The first step I think is really knowing yourself, in terms of what your values are, how you wish to operate in this world, what kind of person you wish to be… Also determine where you want to go, what your goals are and how you wish to live your life…

When you have worked on this clarity of self knowledge and self awareness, you will be more able to look at your beliefs closely to ask yourself some really challenging questions:

* Is this believe really serving me in any way?
* Is this belief helping me move forward in life?
* Is this belief letting me experience the life I’m aiming to create?
* Is this belief useful?

So, the key here is clarity of what you want, first and foremost… Then making sure that everything you think and do is aligned with this clarity…

Some examples:
* If you have a dream of becoming financially independent, but you hold on to the belief that you don’t have what it takes to handle your finances. Perhaps, ever since school where you maybe flunked math because you weren’t really interested, you’ve held on to this belief that: Numbers & counting & even finances, is not anything for you…

* You want to expand your social circle; but just because of some past social trauma, you hold on to the belief that you’re not good with talking to new people,.

* You want to go on to higher studies but you accept the belief that you are not as smart as those who study at this level, so you don’t go on… you stay where you are with the excuse that “I don’t really care that much…”

The problems with beliefs is that we accept them as facts…

But please consider this:

A fact is only “a fact” until we have proven that it’s not a fact, but just something we’ve thought to be true.

The “fact” that the world was flat limited us for a long time…

The “fact” that it was impossible to run a mile under 4 min, was impossible until someone did it 1954.

Don’t accept limiting “facts” about yourself… They will keep you from exploring new waters…

Go on and examine your beliefs… Prove them wrong… And they will change…

Change limiting beliefs about yourself and you are free to move forward and beyond… what you thought was possible…
